Psilocybin Services Wraparound Therapy
Support in Your Journey to Healing and Growth
Comprehensive Support for Individuals Seeking
Psilocybin Services in Oregon
At the Portland Institute for Psychedelic Science (PIPS), we offer holistic, wraparound mental health care for those seeking psilocybin services to address mental health difficulties. Oregon’s Psilocybin Services are mostly focused on providing a safe psilocybin session and are not health care. Because of this, psilocybin centers are highly limited in the support they are able to offer, and can only offer limited support before and after a psilocybin experience. And the focus of that support isn’t meant to address mental health concerns.
For those intending to use psilocybin for mental health, research suggests having more extensive psychotherapy before and after a psilocybin experience is important in gaining benefit and ensuring that change is long-term and lasting. Our clinic provides that therapeutic support.
Our therapists are well-trained and have extensive experience in psychedelic-assisted therapy. We are here to provide compassionate support and individually-tailored treatment that is informed by the latest scientific research. We will help you determine if psilocybin is right for you and help you consider a range of options to help you meet your goals. Our approach is pragmatic and rooted in the latest research on what works in psychotherapy, and in preparing people for and integrating psychedelic experiences.
Our process consists of 3 key phases:
1.) Consultation and Assessment:
We begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your unique needs and background, considering biological, psychological, and socio-cultural factors.
We prioritize safety by assessing for risk factors that might lead to bad outcomes from psilocybin services and help you consult with other medical professionals when appropriate.
Our experienced clinicians will discuss your treatment options, including psilocybin and alternative approaches, to help you to determine the best path for you.
2.) Matching to Appropriate Psilocybin Services:
If together we decide that psilocybin services make sense, we help you select the most appropriate psilocybin facilitator.
We are familiar with a range of service centers and facilitators in the area that we can match you with.
We can also consult with your facilitator so that you receive the best possible care.
By being an independent organization that is not affiliated with any service center, our focus is solely on finding the best match for you.
3.) Post-Session Integration
and Ongoing Support:
Following your psilocybin experience, we will provide integration sessions to help you process insights, emotions, and any challenges that may arise.
We offer ongoing support to foster long-term healing, personal growth, and positive life changes.
We utilize methods backed by science to help guide you to put your insights into action so that the temporary changes induced by psilocybin transfer into long-term change.
Our Approach
At PIPS, we believe in the transformative potential of psilocybin when provided in a safe, supportive, and professionally guided environment, which is what Oregon’s psilocybin services offers. Our team of licensed mental health professionals has extensive experience in psychedelic-assisted therapies. We are dedicated to helping you navigate your journey with compassion, expertise, and respect for your individual needs.
We understand that psilocybin services may not be suitable for everyone. During the consultation and assessment phase, we will openly discuss your options and provide referrals for alternative treatments, such as medication or traditional therapy. If you aren’t sure if psilocybin is safe for you to take with certain factors (such as existing medications or medical conditions), we will provide guidance. We’ll help you take the steps to determine risk, including offering referrals to physicians who are well-versed in psychedelic medicines for consultation.
Our goal is to ensure that you receive safe and effective care that best aligns with your unique situation and goals.

FAQs about Psilocybin Services:
What are psilocybin services?
We do not provide psilocybin services ourselves, but instead provide the wraparound care needed for people who want to utilize psilocybin services for their mental health care. Psilocybin services refer to the preparation, administration, and integration sessions provided by licensed facilitators at approved service centers in Oregon. As of October 2023, these services are now available to individuals aged 21 or older, following the legalization of regulated adult use of psilocybin under Ballot Measure 109. Psilocybin services on their own are not considered health care- clients do not need a medical or psychiatric diagnosis to receive services. Therefore, the preparation and integration services provided by facilitators are limited. It’s also important to note that psilocybin services are not the same as psilocybin-assisted therapy, and licensed facilitators may not necessarily be mental health therapists or healthcare providers. A fact sheet on psilocybin services is available here.
Is psilocybin-assisted therapy legal in Oregon?
In November 2020, Oregon became the first U.S. state to legalize psilocybin for therapeutic supported use. The Oregon Psilocybin Services Act allows individualspeople age 21 and older to use psilocybin at designated service centers under the guidance of a licensed facilitator. licensed facilitators to provide psilocybin services to individuals 21 years and older. However, these services are not therapy and state-approved facilitators have limited training related to mental health. In contrast, psilocybin-assisted therapy refers to the use of psilocybin within the context of specific psychotherapy specifically aimed at addressing mental health concerns such as depression or anxiety. At this time, psilocybin-assisted therapy is still illegal in Oregon and the rest of the US.
Will my insurance pay for the wraparound therapy services that PIPS provides?
In most cases, yes, insurance will likely cover the cost of our services, such as consultation and integration sessions, as long as these services are provided by licensed mental health professionals and are intended to address a diagnosed mental health condition. However, it's important to note that while the wraparound therapy services we provide may be covered by insurance, the actual psilocybin services, including the administration session, are not covered, as these are not considered medical treatments. It's always best to check with your specific insurance provider to understand your coverage details and any limitations or requirements related to mental health services.
How do I know if psilocybin services are right for me?
The suitability of psilocybin therapy depends on various factors, including your mental health history, current symptoms, and personal goals. During our consultation and assessment phase, our clinicians will work with you to determine whether psilocybin is an appropriate option based on a comprehensive evaluation of your unique needs and circumstances.
